How To Prep Your Paint For Fresh Coatings! - Chemical Guys

Have you ever wondered how to remove degraded coatings to make fresh coats last as long as possible? After polishing or before applying any coating it is imperative that the surface is entirely clean and contaminant free to ensure the longest lasting bond. Old sealant and wax residue can still clog the pores of the paint, blocking a durable bond and reducing the effectiveness of your new coating. Chemical Guys Wipe-Out Surface Prep Spray dissolves and strips old wax and sealant layers to expose a totally pristine surface. Old IPA, or Isopropyl Alcohol, solutions dissolved residue, but did nothing to lubricate against scratching with airborne debris or rough towels. Wipe-Out Surface Prep Spray is blended with synthetic wetting agents to help lubricate against fresh damage with every wipe, keeping paintwork pristine and unfettered. Totally-bare surfaces are better prepared for a fresh coating and durable protection • • • • • • • • • • • • Products Used in Today's Video • • • • • • • • • • • • • • ➜ Wipe Out: https://ift.tt/2lMWgDc ➜ Green Workhorse Microfiber Towel: https://ift.tt/2fyXkve • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • ● Website: www.ChemicalGuys.com ● Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=chemicalguys ● Subscribe to our newsletter: https://ift.tt/2vjCz9T ● Like Us on Facebook: https://ift.tt/2uJzRxo ● Follow us on Instagram: https://ift.tt/2vjwfPB

'A Moment of Stillness' | Edward Hopper's 'Chop Suey'

American painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967) was concerned above all ‘with general human values’, using art ‘as a way to frame the forces at work in the modern world’. 'Chop Suey' epitomises the psychological complexity for which his work is celebrated, freezing in place an everyday scene from an America that was changing rapidly. How to maintain and clean your vacuum cleaner

How to maintain and clean your vacuum Has your hoover lost its suction? We explain how to get it up and running again with our step-by-step guide. How to maintain your vacuum and keep suction strong... 1. Clean the vacuum cleaner floor head and brush bar. Depending on the model, you'll either need to carefully cut along the brush bar and pull the hair out with your hands, or, if your vacuum has a removable brush bar, pull it out and then cut away hair and fluff and pull it off before reinserting. 2. Clean the vacuum filter There are two filters on nearly every vacuum cleaner: motor filter (usually found at the back near where the exhaust from the vacuum is emitted) and allergen filter (typically nearer to the dust container, or bag.) You should clean these two filters regularly, usually at least once a month. Check your manual for advice on where the filters are and how to clean them, as it can differ by model. 3. Check the vacuum cleaner bag and dust container - Bagless vacuums Ideally, empty yours after every use - particularly if the dust capacity is less than a litre (common on cordless vacuums). Check where the max fill line is on the canister - you might be surprised to find it only around a third of the way up. - Bagged vacuums Replacement bag costs can add up, so you'll want to get the most out of each dustbag on a bagged model. But if you're finding suction levels dwindling, check the bag. If it's full up, switching it over to a fresh one can help restore suction quickly. 4. Check the vacuum belt If you’ve got an upright vacuum and the spinning brush has stopped working, there’s a good chance the belt needs fixing (if it has one). This is a relatively easy fix and only costs a couple of pounds. For more vacuum care and troubleshooting tips, visit https://ift.tt/2CMN4IY. Art of Manliness Podcast #126: Christianity, Masculinity, and Manly Maxims With Stephen Mansfield

Originally published August 2015 During the past few centuries, Christian churches have had some difficulty reaching men. During the late 19th century and even today, churches created special programs in an attempt to get more men in their pews. But why does this difficulty exist in the first place? And what can be done about it? In today’s podcast I talk to author and speaker Stephen Mansfield about this issue as well as his book Mansfield’s Book of Manly Men. If you’re a Christian, you’ll find Stephen’s insights about the church and men interesting; if you’re not a Christian, it’s still interesting to learn more about this aspect of our culture, and you’ll get a lot out of of the second half of our conversation on the virtues and ideals Stephen thinks men should strive for, as well as the great men from history we should study and emulate. Show Highlights Why Christian churches have had such a hard time getting men in the pews What churches can do to connect more with men The rite of passage into manhood Stephen experienced in Damascus Stephen’s Manly Maxims What King David meant when he said to his son Solomon, “Show yourself a man.” What Winston Churchill can teach us about having a terrible father Why men need to re-learn the skill of friendship What Teddy Roosevelt can teach us about embracing our wild side And much more! Art of Manliness Podcast #125: The Great Gatsby With Maureen Corrigan

Originally published July 2015 I know it’s cliche, but my all-time favorite novel is F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. To me it offers prescient warnings on the perils of a consumer society and perfectly captures the American drive to strive for the unattainable, even if it results in tragedy. NPR’s literary critic, Maureen Corrigan, is also a huge Gatsby fan. A far bigger one than I am, in fact! She’s read the book 67 times and has even sat through a seven-hour reading/performance of its text. In her latest book, So We Read On: How The Great Gatsby Came to Be and Why It Endures, Maureen takes us on a cultural/historical tour of a true classic. She wanted to uncover what it is about a novel written about Jazz Age New York that resonates with Americans nearly a century later. In today’s podcast, we discuss what she found in her search. If you’re a fan of the Gatsby, this is a must-listen. Show Highlights Why The Great Gatsby was a critical and commercial flop when it was first published and how it became the Great American Novel Why Gatsby still resonates with readers 90 years after it was published How Gatsby was a predecessor of the hard-boiled detective novel The novels that have been published in the past 20 years that are as timeless as Gatsby What you can do to make Gatsby a more engaging read the next time you dig into it And much more! The Korean-American artist talks about how returning to South Korea saved him from a creative crisis. ‘Every artist starts out where you want to find out something about yourself. Kids' Halloween costumes fail fire safety tests - Which? Investigates

A Which? investigation reveals some children’s Halloween costumes are failing to meet fire safety testing standards. We tested 20 kids’ fancy dress outfits, many of which are being stocked by online and high street shops and supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Ebay and Amazon, in time for Halloween and Bonfire Night. Two of the outfits didn't meet the requirements of the British safety standard (BS EN 71-2). These were a Maleficent costume, which we bought from EBay but is made by Spanish company Fiestas Guirca and we’ve also seen stocked at Amazon, Party Delights and Magictoys.com, and a werewolf costume from B&M. The headpiece on the Maleficent outfit and the moulded mask that came with the werewolf outfit burned too quickly to pass. We informed retailers we spotted stocking the costumes that didn’t pass the British standard of our results. When we contacted B&M, it told us that the werewolf outfit has already been recalled and that it’s accepting returns, refunds and exchanges. Ebay told us that the listing featuring the Malificent costume has now been removed and it has reached out to the seller to ensure that they contact all buyers regarding this issue and to offer them a full refund. Ebay has said it will be keeping an eye out for any listings which are believed to be the same item, and stated: ‘The safety of our customers is our number one priority and we work closely with trading standards to keep our marketplace safe. We have removed this item and will continue to monitor any listings.’ Amazon told us: ‘Customer safety is our highest priority. Third-party sellers are required to comply with all relevant laws and regulations when listing items for sale on Amazon. When sellers don’t comply with our terms, we work quickly to take action on behalf of customers. The product in question is no longer available.’ We’d advise parents to watch out for these costumes being stocked elsewhere. For our full investigation visit https://ift.tt/2JgPot0. How To Remove Bird Dropping Stains! - Chemical Guys

A clean car is a happy car! Mirror shine, deep gloss and a wet finish are sought after by all detailing enthusiasts and birds show their appreciation with a gift from above. Every car owner knows how frustrating it is to see your freshly detailed ride, riddled with bird stains. Bird droppings have a high level of uric acid which when it comes in contact with clear coat and the expansion due to heat, will react causing a stain. If the stain is left untreated for too long it can and will permanently damage the paint with either an etch or fracturing the paint resulting in costly repairs. •••••••••••• Products Used in Today's Video •••••••••••••• ➜ TORQ 10FX DA Polisher: https://ift.tt/1SqJiWD ➜ VSS Scratch and Swirl Remover: https://ift.tt/1SIKxPU ➜ Pad Conditioner: https://ift.tt/2xwDWpf ➜ Green Workhorse Microfiber Towel: https://ift.tt/2fyXkve ➜ OG Clay Bar & Luber Kit: https://ift.tt/2vy3JwG ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ● Website: www.ChemicalGuys.com ● Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=chemicalguys ● Subscribe to our newsletter: https://ift.tt/2vjCz9T ● Like Us on Facebook: https://ift.tt/2uJzRxo ● Follow us on Instagram: https://ift.tt/2vjwfPB

Hidden Treasures Inside a Gilt-Bronze Bodhisattva

Chinese Works of Art specialist Cecilia Zi describes her delight at discovering the mysteries within this rare Xuande-period gilt-bronze figure of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. ‘My first impressions were, “Is this right? Is this too good to be true?”,’ reveals Cecilia Zi, Chinese Works of Art specialist at Christie’s in London. She is referring to the first time she encountered this rare Xuande-period, gilt-bronze seated figure of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. Zi and her colleagues spotted the sculpture when they were doing a valuation visit at the property of Soame Jenyns, the former Keeper of Asian Art at the British Museum. Little did they know then that there is more to the bronze than meets the eye. As our specialist quickly discovered, the figure is hollow inside and the base is sealed with a copper plate. Fake reviews - Which? investigation

Do you use online customer reviews? Have you ever spotted a fake review? Customer reviews can be invaluable in helping you choose what to buy. In a Which? survey of more than 2,000 UK adults, 97% told us they use online customer reviews when researching a product. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) estimates that £23 billion a year of UK consumer spending is influenced by online customer reviews (CMA). But our research shows that fake reviews can have a detrimental effect on consumers. While 90% of people have heard of fake reviews, only 61% were concerned by them. However, 31% of people told us they had bought a product because of excellent customer scores and had been disappointed by it. How to spot a fake review - Check the balance of overall ratings - if they’re all five stars or one star, this could be a red flag. - Delve deeper and read the reviews - look out for any huge differences of opinion on key features. - Click on some reviewers and check their review history. See whether they give everything five stars. For more tips and our full investigation, visit https://ift.tt/2NR6n5L. 'Emerging Into the Light' | Giovanni del Campo's 'Allegory of Virtuous Love'

This intimate masterpiece was for many years unattributed, until an art historian’s powers of recall solved its mystery in the late 1970s. Specialists Jonquil O’Reilly and John Hawley enjoy a close encounter with the work. Giovanni del Campo’s 'Allegory of Virtuous Love' comes from the collection of the economist and pioneering art historian John Michael Montias (1928-2005), who was renowned for his scholarship on Dutch 16th and 17th-century painting, and his revelations about the life of Johannes Vermeer in particular. ‘'Allegory of Virtuous Love' had long gone as an unattributed painting, and various proposals had been made but nothing really stuck,’ reveals John Hawley, Associate Specialist in Old Master Paintings in New York, in our film. ‘Montias was working in the mid-1970s in the Delft archives and came across a description of this very painting, said to be by del Campo.’ It was a deposition by the Dutch painter Leonaert Bramer, who was in Rome with del Campo, and notes that he acquired a painting of this subject, returned with it to the Netherlands, and shortly thereafter sold it to a doctor in Delft. Specialist Kim Yu considers the spiritual import of Su Shi’s 'Wood and Rock', and why elemental forces might have offered consolation in times of banishment. ‘What is the spirit of the Orient?’ asks Kim Yu, International Senior Specialist in Chinese Paintings at Christie’s, before citing ‘the pursuit of simplicity’ and artistic expression through ‘introspective exploration’. The specialists says Su Shi’s Wood and Rock, painted, it is believed, sometime between 1071 and 1101, exudes this same sense of simplicity. Rocks, bamboo and wood regularly featured in the great Northern Song scholar-official’s work and these ‘three worthy friends’, as Su Shi referred to them, became a source of spiritual inspiration. How to spot a phone scammer

Scammers are leaving fake HRMC voicemail messages to try and trick people into calling them. In recent voicemails from cold callers, we identified three red flags for you to watch out for - - HMRC would never contact you out of the blue and threaten you with arrest. Do air fryers work? Tefal Actifry vs Philips Viva Collection

Tefal Actifry Genius vs Philips Airfryer - food taste test challenge. Find out which one failed our homemade dessert challenge. We pitted the Philips Viva Collection against the Tefal Actifry low-fat fryer to find out which one is better at cooking less typical recipes with the least amount of mess and hassle. For this challenge we cooked homemade sweet potato fries and chocolate brownies in both air fryers. Tefal Actifry models cost from £100- £250. A higher price will get you a larger capacity for cooking – up to 1.5kg – and more advanced features. Philips has fewer models in the AirFryer range and prices start a little higher, at around £150. The largest model in the 2017 range has a 1.2kg capacity. Both brands' fryers use air that's heated and blasted around the inside of the appliance, along with a small amount of oil, to cook food. Actifry models have a paddle that turns food as it cooks. Does this produce better results? Check our in-depth air fryer reviews to find out: https://ift.tt/2yaWE58. How do buy-to-let mortgages work?

A buy-to-let mortgage is essential if you want to rent out a property you are purchasing, watch as we explain the key differences from a normal mortgage. The biggest difference is that they are interest only, which means you get low monthly payments but you don't pay off capital of the loan so you'll need to have another way of paying off what you have borrowed, or you can sell the property at the end of the term. 'Haunting and Other-worldly' | Gerhard Richter’s 'Schädel (Skull)'

The first of the iconic series of eight skull paintings created in 1983 — of which four are now displayed in museum collections — 'Schädel (Skull)' stands among Gerhard Richter’s most poignant, intimate and technically refined works. Created in conjunction with his celebrated 'Kerzen (Candles)', the work speaks to the artist’s own reflections on mortality in the wake of his 50th birthday — art historian Dietmar Elger describes it as ‘a masterpiece of rare intimacy’ and an ‘allegorical self-portrait’ of sorts. Based on a photograph taken by the artist, the painting demonstrates the consummate mastery of pigment that — elsewhere in his practice — was beginning to give way to his first real achievements in free abstraction. Sumptuous tonal gradation shrouds the composition in chiaroscuro, bringing it into dialogue with the memento mori still-life tradition cultivated by the Old Masters. At the same time, its seamless blending of contours and shadow mimics the distortive, blurring effects of the camera: a culmination of the disarming, painterly 'trompe l’oeil' effect first explored in Richter’s photo-paintings of the 1960s. Lucio Fontana: A Primer

Christie's specialist Stefano Amoretti examines the work of Lucio Fontana, the multifaceted founder of Spatialism who created the endless void. Born to Italian parents in Rosario de Santa Fé, Argentina, in 1899, Lucio Fontana began his artistic career as a sculptor, working under his father Luigi before setting out on his own. Throughout his early years, Fontana split his time between Argentina and Italy, studying at the Accademia di Brera under Adolfo Wildt and exhibiting his works at the Milanese gallery, Il Milione. In 1940, he returned to Argentina, in part to escape war-ravaged Europe. It was there, in 1946, that Fontana founded the Altamira academy, and, with several of his students, penned the White Manifesto, wherein they stated, ‘Matter, colour, and sound in motion are the phenomena whose simultaneous development makes up the new art,’ laying the foundations for what would become Spazialismo, the Spatialist movement. What is dividend tax?

Find out how dividend tax works and when you'll pay it. If you own shares in a company, you may get paid a share of these profits as a dividend. Dividend tax is a special type of income tax that's charged on these profits. Dividends can be a great way to generate a regular income from your investments. But, as with any income you earn, you may have to pay dividend tax. The good news is that income tax on dividends is lower than the rate you’ll pay on money from work or a pension. You can also use your tax-free dividend allowances, meaning you can earn more income from your investments before you’ll start paying tax.
