How to spot a phone scammer

Scammers are leaving fake HRMC voicemail messages to try and trick people into calling them. In recent voicemails from cold callers, we identified three red flags for you to watch out for - - HMRC would never contact you out of the blue and threaten you with arrest. If there was a genuine warrant for your arrest, the police would contact you. - Scammers won't use official HMRC phone numbers. Always check the HMRC website for its correct contact information. - Official correspondence from HMRC will always include your taxpayer number.
