New tenants fees laws
From June 2019 letting fees are banned in England, which means that charges including reference checks and tenancy renewals are now a thing of the past. The general rule is that landlords and letting agents can no longer charge tenants fees associated with letting. However, there are a few exceptions - watch our video to find out what renters in England have to pay under the new law. Landlords and letting agents who fail to adhere to the new rules could face fines of up to £5,000, or even a jail sentence if they continue to breach the regulations after being fined.
