How to fix a dishwasher that won't start

If your dishwasher won't start, follow our quick guide to see if you can fix the problem without calling in a professional. 1. If the control panel doesn’t show any signs of life, the first thing to check is the socket. Try unplugging your dishwasher, and plugging in something else - a lamp, for example. If the lamp works the problem will likely be with your dishwasher rather than with the socket. 2. If the control panel does work, check that the dishwasher door is fully closed and try to start the machine again. 3. Once you’ve tried the plug and you’ve made sure the dishwasher door is closed, the next thing to have a look at is the dishwasher manual. In here you should find the manual reset instructions. The problem might well be caused by the dishwasher not having finished the previous cycle. Carry out the manual reset to see if this fixes it. 4. If your dishwasher’s still not starting, now’s the time to call in a professional to have a look. If after all of this you can’t fix the problem yourself, try Which?
